I read Blood and Magick: Betrayed from start to finish in less than a day, and if you're anything like me, there's a chance you will, too.
From the very beginning I formed an attachment to the main character, Alexis “Lexi” Talbot. Scenes of Lexi with family, friends, or her new beau Sebastian feel very genuine; you can easily experience the warmth and compassion in her heart for those close to her.
The supernatural element is woven into plot organically, with teases and hints building until Lexi learns the truth about who she is – a secret that I enjoyed as a unique spin on the established vampire mythos. Once the mystery is revealed the story races forward, delving deeper into the creation of a pantheon of vampires, vampire hunters and blood witches, and featuring action sequences that, told with Lexi's trademark stream-of-consciousness narration, put me on the edge of my seat. Sometimes things move too quickly, but I'm comforted in that respect by the fact that a sequel is on the way.
The back cover blurb - “Love. Lies. Magick. Betrayal.” - really encapsulates the experience of this book. Fans of the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris will find themselves at home here; others will quickly be pulled in to the world of Betrayed and left waiting for the next installment once they've had their first taste.

My impressions of Blood and Magick: Betrayed are now live on Morrigan and Misty's blog. Bear in mind, dear reader, that both Betrayed and Wandering Stars now release on October 1st - in other words, the Halloween season should be off to a very pleasant start for you this year.
